🇲🇽 September 15 is a big day across Mexico and Central America. 🌎
Mexico celebrates its Independence Day on September 16, with the celebrations beginning on the evening of September 15. Meanwhile, Costa Rica 🇨🇷, El Salvador 🇸🇻, Guatemala 🇬🇹, Honduras 🇭🇳, and Nicaragua 🇳🇮 celebrate their independence on September 15.
Mexico’s independence movement began in 1810. In 1821, Central America declared its independence from Spain, in the same broader wave of political change that was reshaping New Spain and the Spanish Americas.
The histories are deeply connected: after declaring independence from Spain, the Central American provinces briefly became part of the Mexican Empire under Agustín de Iturbide before separating and forming their own political path.
Same month. Connected histories.
A reminder that the history of Mexico and Central America has always been closely intertwined.
From all of us at Luna Tours & Hiking, we wish our friends in Mexico and Central America a very happy Independence celebration! 🎉
¡Viva México! 🇲🇽 And happy Independence Day to our neighbors across Central America! 🇨🇷 🇸🇻 🇬🇹 🇭🇳 🇳🇮
