Puerto Vallarta has kicked off its sea turtle release season, one of the most moving nature experiences the destination has to offer, where visitors can watch the tiny hatchlings emerge from their nests and make their way to the ocean.

๐ŸŒ… Between summer and winter, thousands of turtles arrive on Puerto Vallartaโ€™s beaches to lay their eggs. Some of their eggs are protected at turtle camps, and after about 50 days of incubation, the hatchlings are born and are typically released at sunset, when conditions are favorable for their journey to the sea.

One of the highlights is the Boca de Tomates Turtle Sanctuary, north of Puerto Vallarta. During the 2025โ€“2026 season, it protected more than 36,000 eggs and successfully released 30,864 hatchlings. ๐ŸŒŠ

Conservation efforts also involve hotels in the bay area, including Marriott Puerto Vallarta, The Westin Playa Vallarta, Sunscape Puerto Vallarta, Hyatt Ziva, Hotel Rosita, El Pescador, and Velas Vallarta, as well as specialized operators such as Ecotours Vallarta.

๐ŸŒฑ In addition to being a tourist experience, participating in a release allows visitors to learn about the life cycle of these ancient reptiles and contribute to environmental education and the protection of the species.

๐Ÿ“Œ The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust recommends checking directly with each camp, hotel, or operator regarding availability, dates, times, and conditions for participation, as releases depend on the hatching of the nests and the natural conditions of the beach.

๐Ÿข๐Ÿ’™ A tiny turtle making its way to the sea is also a reminder of the importance of conserving our ecosystems.
